What Conditions Require a Mining Crawler Mucking Machine?
A mining crawler mucking machine is essential in specific tunnel projects. Choosing the right model depends on tunnel size, slope, and ground condition.
Narrow sections
When the tunnel width is under 4 meters or height below 3 meters, crawler machines fit better. They have a small turning radius, often just 2.8 meters, and a compact body, sometimes as narrow as 1.1 meters. This allows safe operation without hitting support structures. Wheel machines, with a larger turning radius, risk collisions and work delays.
Steep slopes and tough geology
Crawler machines work well on slopes over 15 degrees. Their strong grip prevents sliding, and they can climb up to 45 degrees. On muddy, loose, or waterlogged ground, they perform reliably. With a ground pressure below 60 kPa, they avoid sinking. They also handle large rock pieces over 400 mm without damage.
Wet tunnel conditions
In tunnels with continuous water seepage, crawler machines stay stable. Their anti-slip plates offer a friction factor above 0.8, while wheel machines often slip with a factor under 0.4.
Selecting the right machine improves efficiency and safety. For narrow, steep, or wet tunnels, a mining crawler mucking machine is the best choice.
